![]() Because the Mini 2 is so small and hard to spot, you may be able to leave it in the car with less risk of theft. You can pop the Mini 2 off of the mounting arm at the ball-joint coupling (on the camera), but it doesn’t part ways as easily as the magnetic alternative and is likely to break from stress sooner. ![]() I actually stuck it to the mounting disk from the recently reviewed Dash Cam 57. Instead, it uses a semi-permanent adhesive disk of the same size. I was a little disappointed that the Mini 2 doesn’t use the same magnetic disk and mount that Garmin’s other dash cams employ. Installing any dash cam involves largely the same steps, though with different mounts and positioning. Garmin’s Dash Cam Mini 2 from the front, showing its wide 140-degree-FOV lens. The latter two features require a constant power source. > This dashcam is the first that Ive had that can handle how loud I put my music and bass. Other notable features include temporary cloud storage (up to 30 days) through Garmin’s Vault portal, Live View with the aforementioned Drive app, and Parking Guard. Voice control allows you to save a video, take a picture, and turn audio recording on and off. Indeed, while testing (and before reading the specs) I was under the impression that there was a battery. However, the supercapacitor is hefty enough to keep the Mini 2 running for a good two to three seconds after you pull the plug. The Dash Cam Mini 2 opts for a supercapacitor, likely because there isn’t enough room for the lithium-ion battery found in Garmin’s larger dash cams. The included cable orients upward when plugged in. Garmin’s Dash Cam Mini 2 with its micro-B USB port.

![]() Very neat!Īs indicated above, these are just examples of the sort of small-but-worthwhile changes made throughout the program that enhance both its appearance and usability. In addition, you can also capture an image of the user interface of any third-party plug-in (once the plug-in is open, there is a small camera icon located next to the plug-in's preset browser) so that you see a visual representation of the plug-in within the Media tab browser. You now have the option to drag and drop VST effects as well as VST instruments into your project. The Project window's Right Zone now includes drag and drop for VST effects selection, and options for showing image icons for third-party plug-ins.Another obvious cosmetic/practical enhancement is in the Media tab of the Project window's Right Zone. The functionality of this second dialogue has also been enhanced so, for example, if you're creating a new audio track and you assign it to an as-yet unassigned hardware input, that input is automatically added to your Audio Connections configuration you don't have to do this as a separate operation.īoth the Add Track and Colorize dialogues can now stay open as floating panels: a small change, but a very useful workflow enhancement. This sounds like a minor change, but actually makes these tools much easier to use: you can now colour-code your whole project without needing to continually return to the main menus, and rapidly add all the tracks/track types required in a new project to get you started. Other examples of 'cosmetic but practical' improvement include, for example, the Colorize Palette and the Add Track dialogues, both of which can now be kept open as floating windows. The results are much slicker in appearance, and also make the controls more logical in use. Like many of the stock plug-ins, Stereo Delay has received a welcome makeover. Many of the stock plug-ins have also been given a makeover, continuing a process that has been ongoing over the last few update cycles. The Export Audio Mixdown panel is a typical example: though there are only minor changes in the actual functionality, it has been reorganised and made easier to navigate, while features you don't use regularly can easily be folded away. Many windows and dialogue boxes have undergone redesigns there are too many changes to list here, but at the same time, none of them are drastic enough to be disorientating for existing users. The look is slightly darker overall, with light-on-dark tool icons throughout, as typified by the main Project window toolbar. To exploit this, and to bring some workflow streamlining, the interface has gone through numerous detailed changes, and these are apparent whatever monitor resolution you are using. Cubase 10 now offers support for high-resolution (HiDPI) displays, so things ought to appear crisper on a Retina or 4k monitor. I Like The Way You LookĪlmost every dialogue box - including the Export Audio Mixdown dialogue shown here - has been refined in Cubase 10.On first start, there are some obvious cosmetic changes in the new version. ![]() Steinberg's website has a handy comparison chart that outlines which of these new features are included in the more accessible Artist and Elements versions. ![]() This feature set remains intact, so I'll simply focus here on the new elements introduced in Cubase Pro 10. And to support all these varied users, Steinberg continue to offer Cubase in three flavours - Elements, Artist and Pro - ensuring there is something to suit all budgets and upgrade pathways for those with growing ambitions.Īs now seems to be the Steinberg norm, the end of the calendar year sees a new Cubase update and version 10 is now with us. It has also built up a huge and very loyal user base, ranging from home-based hobbyists to the upper echelons of the music‑producing world. With such a long career behind it, it is naturally a very mature, feature-rich application. It's amazing to think that Cubase turns 30 in 2019. Cubase celebrates a milestone birthday with an update that makes almost every aspect of the program slicker and easier to use. "What is the impact of having so many SPACs bidding for a company? Let's say they're bidding for an absolutely fabulous company. As Ivana Naumovska writes for the Harvard Business Review, some 300 SPACs this year are coming up on a deadline where they must find a target to merge with or risk being liquidated. In the months since Klausner, Raun, and Ohlrogge’s study was published, more signs have emerged that SPACs are not only poorly designed vehicles destroying investor capital but also within a bubble that could burst soon. If you sell 10 shares for 10 bucks each and then give away 10 shares for free, you're effectively selling shares for five bucks each.” “If you're giving away a set number of shares for free and you don't know how many shares you're going to sell, then you're not certain about what the real price per share you're going to get is. "People say SPACs are great because you lock in a price and you know what it's going to be, but actually you don't really know the price,” Ohlrogge told Motherboard. The team calculated the total dilution cost was 254 percent of the cash Twelve Seas delivered, putting it just below the 75th percentile of SPACs they examined in terms of costs. ![]() The merger company received $37 million in cash, but its sponsor had 4 million shares for free, the underwriter was paid $15 million for shares that were almost entirely redeemed, and some $36 million in warrants and rights promising free shares were circling around. It saw 82 percent redemptions, raised no new money at the merger, and its sponsor held over 4 million shares (essentially for free) while there were only 3.7 million shares available publicly. One particularly illuminating example of the unpredictability of SPACs in Klauser, Raun, and Ohlrogge’s study centers on the Twelve Seas Investment Company, which initially raised $207 million by selling 20.7 million units to the public. Even when they don't fail, though, you can end up with a situation where redemptions are so high, that the company is getting a very small amount of cash-something like 15 percent of the SPACs we looked at ended up only delivering $10 million or less in cash." “Sometimes the redemptions are too high that the deal just falls through completely and the company doesn't go public. It all really comes down to redemptions,” Ohlrogge told Motherboard. "The biggest misunderstanding that I see persisting is the notion that SPACs justify their high costs by giving companies going public great certainty that the deal will go through at a certain point. Compare this to the median SPAC dilution cost of 50.4 percent. Their data suggests that 20 percent is a reasonable representative figure for a given IPO pop, and after adding on an average IPO underwriting fee of 7 percent, and arrive at a 27 percent IPO cost. The research team used these overlapping assumptions-that the SPAC or the IPO would have sold more shares without sponsor dilution or underwriter underpricing-to compare dilution costs to IPO pop costs. But as we’ve already seen, most SPACs don’t do so well. Of course, some investors will drink the Kool-Aid and believe that the company will increase in value by at least that much and hopefully more. This means that the company's value must increase by 14.1 percent or the cost of the SPAC and its dilution will be eaten by shareholders or the target company. By this metric, a SPAC’s median costs sit around 14.1 percent of the post-merger equity. ![]() Another way to understand it is as a percentage of post-merger equity, so we can understand how much value a SPAC must add to justify itself. If you look at it as a percentage of cash delivered-that means the IPO proceeds minus redemptions but plus new money from private investors-then the median cost is 50.4 percent. “SPAC shareholders were bearing the cost inherent in the SPAC structure” A November 2020 study by Klauser, Raun, and NYU Law professor Michael Ohlrogge found the median cost of warrants and rights alone to be $1.66 for every $10 delivered in a merger. But after the sponsor and other investors cash in their shares and use their rights and warrants (which ultimately convert to shares), suddenly there are a lot more shares in play, a lot less cash behind each share, and thus mine are actually worth less.Įssentially, investors that hold on are paying for the sweet deal offered to those that redeem their shares. Those 10 shares are 10 percent of the company. Remember those rights and warrants? Consider this: I invest in a hypothetical SPAC with 100 shares and buy 10 for myself. The SPAC structure is a deeply flawed one, because of how much the shares of investors that hold on post-merger are diluted. |
